The Academic Affairs and Programs Committee will not approve new course proposals that do not demonstrate how the instructor intends to comply with this policy. Proposals for experimental courses submitted to the Vice-Dean, Academic Affairs for approval and planning cannot be made without evidence of compliance with this policy. All eligible activities are subject to the following requirements: The Office of Career Services helps our students and graduates connect to meaningful legal career and professional development opportunities. Through personalized career counselling, a job search strategy, career development programs, resources and connections with employers, we offer you valuable opportunities to develop the tools you need to succeed as a professional. Similarly, the low-income tax clinic, clerkship courses, and practicum courses have set their own standards for earning credits, but at a minimum, students must receive 2550 minutes (42.5 hours) of combined faculty and assigned out-of-class work per credit. Students are responsible for tracking their hours and receipt of credits is subject to faculty approval. The Associate Dean, Academic Affairs will retain copies of the final records for three years, showing how students earned credits completed at the end of the semester and approved by the faculty member. Each student will demonstrate their ability to conduct effective legal research. Below are some specific guides that instructors should follow when assigning assignments outside of class.

Baucus Institute`s Summer Study abroad program in China: The Summer Law Program in China offers the opportunity to study a range of comparative law subjects, from real estate and environmental law to business law, public law, and many other subjects. USD Knudson Law School and University of Montana School of Law co-teach courses with prominent Chinese law professors. You will study for four weeks at two different Chinese law schools, with law students from Montana and China. Financial support is available. Many students choose to spend more time in China and learn more about Chinese language, culture, and food. Students who enroll in and successfully complete this program earn six elective courses. Questions about the program can be directed to the Dean`s Office or the University of Montana School of Law. Students at USD Knudson Law School can study abroad under an ABA-approved program. If a class is not subject to a final examination, the instructor must ensure that the combination of in-person instruction and direct faculty instruction in addition to assigned out-of-class work meets the above requirements. The guidance note acknowledges that seminar courses, for example, often give more credit than standard “sitting time” would normally allow, recognizing that students spend a lot of time outside of class preparing an essential written product. Standard 310 allows this as long as instructors ensure that the course meets the required equivalent of the general requirements of engagement/out-of-class work. Out-of-class work includes any work assigned by a faculty member that facilitates learning in the course and the achievement of the course`s learning outcomes or objectives, and that the student is expected to complete before entering the classroom. This work may include, but is not limited to: reading assignments (including casework collection materials, reformulations, legal supplements, horn books, etc.), case discussions, additional preparation and revision of notes, sketches, filling in assigned questions, completing problematic sentences (e.g., West Assessment quiz, CALI questions, case collection numbers, etc.), watch or listen to live or recorded events (e.g. e.g. live attempts, videos, podcasts, movies) etc.), research tasks, writing projects (e.g., writing and/or revising student work, revising or revising other work written by students at the request of the professor, etc.), any class-related work that students are required to perform in a group work environment (e.g., simulations outside of class), practical exams, diary submissions, quizzes, participation in online discussion groups, studies in preparation for semesters, final exams or other assessments, and all other assignments related to assigned courses.
