The firm was founded six years ago by Paul Fulcher, a cost expert and lawyer with experience running law firms. The company flourished under his leadership and he expanded the organization to provide services nationwide. QICS is now one of the most recognised legal fee providers in Australia with five cost lawyers, five cost advisors and 12 support staff serving the country. Prior to her career as a legal advisor, Lisa specialized in internal governance in the financial services industry, where she honed her skills in corporate governance and corporate secretarial services. Our team is composed of independent experts with in-depth and specialized knowledge of the recovery of legal costs. As Managing Director of our subsidiary QICS and after successfully developing this organization for 25 years, Alan decided to found National Costing Lawyers. This division focuses on legal calculation issues of a contentious nature. “I opened my own law firm and the clients I had won came to see me. Six years later, there are now a dozen people working for us, all from home, across the country. Alan has had a long career in legal counsel spanning over 40 years.

He began his foray into calculating legal fees with Law Costs and worked with his mother. In 1989, he founded QICS (Queensland Independent Costing Services) with two appraisers and two typists. We understand that service excellence must go hand in hand with a commitment to reducing risk and cost. Last year alone, customers entrusted us with handling claims of over £72 million. However, what sets us apart is our consistent performance in reducing costs – with an average savings rate of over 34%. Paul said: “We specialise in legal fees. When a lawyer closes a case and receives damages, he sends the file of documents and we prepare a detailed calculation of costs, which can be up to 40 pages – letters, calls, time spent, payments, etc. With over 40 years of experience, Alan`s reputation precedes him and is considered one of the most reliable and knowledgeable legal fee experts in the industry. His specialty is providing management and advisory advice to law firms to ensure that cost recovery is compliant, efficient and transparent. Chenara joined the group in 2011. She was drawn to the legal fee industry because of the diversity it offers.

Chenara distinguishes itself by the preparation of expense statements, the execution of abbreviated valuations (cost calculations) and the advice of our clients in all areas of the calculation of legal fees, whether on a lawyer and own client basis, on a standard basis (part and part) or on a remuneration basis. For over 10 years, Alan has been a regular lecturer to Bond University Law School students as part of their practical legal education program. Other days, she curls up and plunges into a literary page turner. During her Bachelor of Laws at Bond University in 2012, Sheri began her career as a legal advisor at our subsidiary QICS. Lance began his career as Legal Costing in 1999. Before joining the group of companies in 2007, Lance had his own calculation company, Ensor Legal Costs Pty Ltd. Lisa`s expertise includes drafting notices of objection, responses to objections, and general submissions to support or deny warranty claims for cost claims. Last week, the Supreme Court issued an important decision on the one-way cost shifting regime qualified in personal injury litigation under Part 44 of the CPP. Ho v Adelekun (2021) concerned the question of whether a defendant can enforce an order for costs by offsetting it against the plaintiff`s own reimbursement of costs if there is no order for damages for enforcement. Amanda has been with our subsidiary QICS since 2008 and is a valued employee and highly respected member of the team.
