We know you have the skills, knowledge and credentials you need to access justice. We appreciate your time and willingness to use your talents for NSLAC and the individuals and families we serve. Community legal education focuses on your legal rights and obligations to make the law easy to understand and provide you with general legal information. The celebration of pro bono supporters of the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland takes place throughout the month of October, not just during the official ABA week of October 23. until October 29, 2022. Events will be held in the 5 counties where legal aid operates. This training includes general information on migrant transport, our screening card and an introduction to asylum.

No previous experience in immigration or asylum matters is required. We will also provide a link to a more comprehensive introduction to asylum and registration of the practice to give people a broader understanding of the issues. We recommend that you take the training, regardless of your legal experience or availability, so that you are prepared if your situation or interests change. NSLAC is proud to offer additional volunteer opportunities throughout the year. This toolkit provides free ABA resources for the implementation of the 2018 Federal Pro Bono Work for Empowerment and Representation Act (POWER Act), which aims to provide victims of domestic, dating, sexual, and stalker violence with access to essential pro bono legal services. Pro bono work is a professional responsibility and an individual ethical obligation of each lawyer. The committee launched the national celebration of pro bono in 2009 because of the growing need for pro bono services in difficult economic times and the unprecedented response from lawyers to meet this demand.

Since 2009, legal organizations across America have participated in the national pro bono celebration each October to raise awareness of the need for pro bono participation and to thank those who give of their time throughout the year. And if you`d like to learn more about how you can get involved in housing law specifically, join us for The Upcoming Eviction Crisis and How You Can Help on Wednesday, October 27, from 12:00 to 13:00. Hear a DC Superior Court judge and experienced eviction attorneys and pro bono attorneys talk about the upcoming eviction crisis, new legal protection and rent assistance programs, and how you can help. The panel will discuss ways for pro bono lawyers to prevent forced evictions and homelessness due to the economic impact of the pandemic. When veterans return from combat or active duty, they may face a variety of legal issues when they return to civilian life. This video series from the Texas Veterans Legal Aid Coalition informs veterans and their families about their rights, benefits, and legal options. The national celebration of pro bono takes place every year in the last week of October. We encourage local communities to plan events to provide pro bono legal services, train lawyers, and celebrate lawyers who volunteer their time to provide legal services to those who cannot afford a lawyer. The Texas Veterans Legal Aid Coalition consists of thirteen legal aid organizations that provide a variety of legal services to veterans in Texas.

Earn continuing education credits and learn about the unique legal issues faced by veterans and their families. Busloads of Venezuelan migrants arrived en masse from Texas in the Chicago area. We know more people will arrive in Wheeling, Des Plaines and Rosemont, IL. We need volunteer lawyers to help our immigration practice provide legal checks to this population. We will train lawyers who are “on call” (able to reach approximately a week in advance) to visit a local hotel to assist with screenings. We will continue to host various virtual events, including clinics and opportunities for lawyers to learn more about pro bono continuing legal education (CLE) programs. Tuesday, October 25, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: U-visas for victims of the October 4 parade. July Register here Attorney Phil Schlichting of Zuma Law, LLC will discuss how attorneys can work in state courts to support an unaccompanied minor immigrant`s claim for special juvenile immigrant status (SIJ). This training will help lawyers become familiar with the state judicial component of the SIJ process in order to provide pro bono support for these cases. Some victims of the shooting at the fourth Highland Park parade may qualify for a U visa — a form of immigration facilitation based on being a victim of a qualified crime.
