Information technology has permeated every aspect of human life, and it is important for law students to keep abreast of the latest developments in this emerging but rapidly evolving field of law. Accordingly, since 2004-2005, the Government Law College has been organizing a “Diploma in Cyberlaw” in cooperation with the Asian School of Cyberlaw. Government Law College offers two law courses: (i) three-year law program and (ii) five-year law program. Each of these courses is independent and follows the rules of the University of Mumbai and the Bar Council of India. Each course has its own admission criteria. Intellectual property rights are becoming a critical area of law for the protection of intellectual property in the form of patents, trademarks, copyrights or designs, with a constantly increasing demand. Admission is open to applicants holding a bachelor`s degree from any faculty of a recognized university. This course is useful not only for lawyers but also for engineers, doctors, etc., especially in terms of knowledge of patents and copyrights. Recognising the growing importance of the Indian capital market and in line with its pioneering role in Indian legal education, Government Law College Mumbai is offering a one-year postgraduate course in securities law, the first of its kind in India. Admission is open to applicants holding a bachelor`s degree from a faculty of the University of Mumbai or an equivalent degree from another university with basic knowledge of corporate law.

Respect for human rights is fundamental to the discourse on the survival of each nation and to the fundamental values of human society. Therefore, it is urgent to create sufficient awareness of the philosophy, problems and practice of this subject. The objective of this course is to provide participants with basic knowledge about human rights and information on their effective treatment and application. The course will also enable participants to effectively apply human rights principles both in their chosen fields and outside themselves as conscientious citizens, and will contribute in particular to the advancement of those interested in legal, political, sociological and ethical theory. The course is interspersed with field visits, as we believe it would expose participants to a variety of topics that require special attention, as well as the mechanisms available to protect human rights.
