Health Legal Internship

This internship/clerkship is an unpaid academic learning experience that provides an in-depth understanding of government agencies and the role of law and policy in promoting public health. Interns are exposed to high-level strategic planning and other program functions, including marketing, communications, project management, and partner contacts and relations. These articling positions create formal entry-level experiences for third-year law students and third-year law students who wish to explore careers in public health law. This opportunity could be particularly attractive to law students who have conducted public health or other scientific research or who have worked with datasets and coding processes. Clerkship and internships are available to students seeking academic credit, as authorized by law schools or schools of public health. PHLP offers the Internship/Day School in Administration and Communication to students enrolled in Master`s programs earning degrees in Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration, Communications, Economics or similar disciplines. The CDC`s Public Health Law Program (PHLP) seeks motivated students who enjoy challenges and can bring a fresh perspective and innovative solutions to the CDC.

With rolling start and end dates throughout the academic year, unpaid internships and internships with PHLP expose students to the field of public health and allow them to explore the role of law in advancing public health goals. The Departmental Appeal Commission (DAB) offers full-time summer internships and semester internships to law students. DAB has four distinct and unique departments, namely: All subsequent internships and internships consist of 9-14 weeks of experience working with PHLP. All internships and internships will be remote. The Act has been essential to achieving public health goals and serves as the foundation for government public health practice in the United States. Many of the greatest public health achievements, including high childhood immunization rates, improved vehicle safety, workplace safety and reduced tooth decay, are the result of legal intervention. Today, the law plays an increasingly important role in addressing emerging public health threats such as childhood obesity, healthcare-associated infections, motor vehicle injuries and prescription drug overdoses. The Spitzer articling allows us to offer law school law students from across the country annual summer positions in each of our three offices – Washington, Los Angeles and Chapel Hill. The National Health Law Program is committed to creating an environment that empowers exceptional and diverse employees and to promoting health equity in our content. This internship is a practical opportunity for law students to engage in health law and policy, and to work with practicing lawyers to advocate on behalf of consumers.

Internal responsibilities may include conducting legal research, writing internal and external calls, providing direct customer service, and creating consumer-focused knowledge of your rights. Where possible, articling students will help represent clients at Medicaid Fair hearings and New York State of Health Marketplace appeals. The Health Insurance Operations Division provides staff to administrative appeal judges and appeals officers of the Health Insurance Appeal Board. The Council conducts the final administrative review of Medicare claims and individual claims for Medicare coverage and payment from health care beneficiaries or providers.
