Developed by Linda Klein, President of the ABA, in 2016-2017, the ABA Veterans Legal Services Initiative focused on a wide range of legal issues affecting Veterans and was led by a twenty-member Veterans Legal Services Commission. Veterans Treatment Courts The Judicial Council maintains a list of superior courts in California counties with veterans` treatment courts for people facing various charges, from addiction to mental illness.

Attorney General`s Legal Clinic – The Attorney General of Virginia, in partnership with the Department of Veterans Services and the Virginia State Bar, provides simple, free estate planning services to low-income veterans, their partners and spouses. These clinics are held in areas throughout the state and offer simple wills, medical living wills, and powers of attorney. It also publishes the Comprehensive Veterans Benefits Manual and a web application, the NVLSP VA Benefits Identified, to help determine which VA benefits a person may be eligible for. A one-year initiative of the Young Lawyers Division to inform former members of the benefits available to federal veterans and help them complete the required documents. Virginia Court System Self-Help Website – This website provides legal information in areas of law that are often sought after by self-represented individuals, such as family law, traffic issues, landlord-tenant law, minor claims, estate, protection orders, guardianship, and curatorship.

The Office of the Attorney General for Military and Veteran Legal Aid was established to promote and facilitate civilian legal aid programmes, pro bono and self-help services for military personnel, veterans and their families. As part of its efforts, the Office of the Military and Veterans Identifies Legal Aid Programs and maintains the following registry so that military and veterans have a single source of information on the various legal aid resources that are available to them. Property Tax Exemptions for Disabled Veterans and Surviving Spouses A Veteran who is 100% disabled or 100% compensated due to a service-related injury or illness is exempt from property tax up to a maximum of $100,000 ($150,000 for low-income individuals).
